THE CHOCOLATE PARTY
July 25, 2009
 Club Central - Phoenix, Arizona

From the time the Emcee announce the beginning of the 3rd Annual Chocolate Party program on through the evening, I could not but feel the positive energy flowing throughout Club Central.

Master Mason Tim Seay of King SolmonLodge #14The attending chocolatier was there to satisfy your chocolate cravings! From the flowing waterfall of pure chocolate pouring down the fountain with marshmallows, strawberries and other treats waiting to be covered with  pure chocolate, to the very hospitable hostesses at the entrances, the event was a complete success.

The bartenders Candice and Tiffany along with the rest of the staff made for one "very memorable" evening. Service was absolutely great and with plenty of  smiles!

The purpose of this benefit program was to raise funds for the 2009 Scholarship  Fund sponsored by the Square and Compass Social Club, the social organization of King Solomon Lodge #14 of the Arizona Prince Hall Masons.  This fund in is line with one of the primary goals of the Lodge, to raise community awareness and provide educational support to deserving youth in Metro Phoenix.

This years' scholarship went to Kamau Jones,18 of Phoenix. Kamau graduated from Paradise Valley High School in 2007. Kamau went on to Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia completing his first year this spring.  He has been a volunteer working with local social organizations. From feeding the poor with St Vincent DePaul and assisting other local groups who work with the less fortunate, Kamau has shown his consistent desire to help those in need.

Therefore,  after applying for this 2009 Scholarship, displaying the leadership qualities needed to succeed and having the clear goal of being a help to the community, Kamau was awarded the 2009 $1000 Scholarship. Kamau's major is Business Management with emphasis on music management. His mother Sheila Jones was proud to accept the Check and 2009 Scholarship Award for her son Kamau.

Other Comments from observers:

Ivy and Sheryl went among the many who enjoyed the program!

"He (Kamau) will now return to Morehouse College to continue his studies", says Alice B.

"This is an event that really helped a responsible young man", William G. said.

Jessie J. said: "The 2009 Scholarship Fund is the greatest thing we can do to help  benefit the young who wants to fulfill his or her dream to go to college."

Juanita S. made this comment: "There is a cohesiveness in the Lodge, they work together. This is not a one person job. They (members of the Lodge) all work really hard and together.  I think it is incredible that a mason lodge would step up to the plate and bless the community this way."

Kenny B. said: "Anything we can do to help a young person go to school and anything the black community can do to help the young in the black community be guided in the right direction, I am for it".

Ivy F. observed, " This event is needed for the less fortunate.  As a single parent of a teenage daughter, I hope one day my daughter will be able to benefit if needed".

Tursha' H. noted: "This event is a good idea.  It allows people the opportunity to come together for a  good purpose and it reflects unity since everyone wore the same color, shades of brown (i.e. chocolate).  Socially, since I have been here (in Metro Phoenix) I have not seen a lot of opportunities for African Americans to come together. This (event) provides an opportunity to give back and still get something out of it in return."

A Serious Cause

The Chocolate Party represented a serious cause. The crowd of over 350 were able to relax and unwind with plenty of good food prepared by the chefs of Club
Central and drinks prepared by the great bartenders such as Candice and Tiffany! The Lodge members worked tirelessly to make sure all went according to schedule and everyone enjoyed the program!
